Brew Review #89
Captain Lawrence Espresso Stout
American Stout
Captain Lawrence, Pleasantville, New York, USA
I RATE THIS BEER: 88
RELEASE: Occasional // THE ABV. 6.0% | IBU’s. ? // THE NOSE: Saffron, Bone Marrow, Pollen, Hot Chocolate, Marshmallow, Radish, Freshly Sliced Golden Delicious Apple, Redcurrant Jam // THE TASTE: Oxtail Soup, Cold Pressed Ice Coffee, Caramel, Cashew, Charcoal // THE BOTTOMLINE: Naturally flavorful and integrated, this feathery espresso stout harmoniously balances seemingly contradictory attributes, uncompromisingly dry roasted bitterness and the effervescence of a chilled coffee soda. The result is a coffee beer that is actually session worthy - far from a given with this style. If there's a caveat with this brew it's that your like or dislike of it ultimately boils down to how you 'take' your java stouts, if you prefer them on the sweeter side then this will likely be a little too triple espresso bitter for you. // THE BACKBONE: Black Cow Coffee Company Coffee Beans - Croton, New York // PRICE POINT: $5 | 1x 32ox growler //
