Brew Review #82

Sly Fox Christmas Ale 2009

American Amber Ale

Sly Fox, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA

I RATE THIS BEER: 89

RELEASE: November // THE ABV. 6.5% | IBU’s. 16 // THE NOSE: Dark Chocolate, Pledge Wood Polish, Quince Jam, Conifer Evergreen Tree, Fried Egg, Boiled Rice // THE TASTE: Single Cream, Milk Chocolate, Peppermint Toothpaste, Wintergreen, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, Pine // THE BOTTOMLINE: The first thing that grabs you about this festive Amber is its pretty earthy floral aroma. On the tongue this 2009 vintage is elegant and complex yet light and quaffable, attaining a captivating balance of sweet dairy smoothness and bittersweet boldness. A sneaky freshly brushed minty pop marks the finale, which for my palate just adds to this lithe winter ales charm. Seek this out and enjoy it fresh - despite the 2009 moniker, my review of a year old 2008 discovered that this beer doesn't age in a coherent fashion. // THE BACKBONE: Ginger, Clove, All Spice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg // PRICE POINT: $7 | 1x 22oz bottle //

Food Pairings:

Burger Pork Chop Roast Ham Apple Pie Blueberry Crumble
