Mikkeller Santa’s Little Helper 2008

Belgian Strong Dark Ale

Mikkeller, Copenhagen, Hovedstaden, Denmark

I RATE THIS BEER: 91

RELEASE: November // THE ABV. 11.0% | IBU’s. ? // THE NOSE: Fresh Cat Litter, Maraschino Cherry Liqueur, Engine Grease, Barnyard, Musk, Wet Gravel // THE TASTE: Anise, Black Pepper, Cumin, Cayenne Pepper, Raisin, Savory, Dill, Cynar Apéritif Liqueur // THE BOTTOMLINE: Hulking, rambunctious and brooding, this ale is something of a lovable gentle giant. The immediately intimidating aroma packs everything from the scent of syrupy cocktail spirits to animal leavings and gearbox lubricant. On the palate the intense nose quickly gives way to a stew of morish flavors, the essence of biting spices, freshly cut salad herbs and creamy cocoa dusted chocolate truffles all jostle for the attention of your tastebuds. A lingering chili pepper bite closes out this rich and above par cold weather table ale. // THE BACKBONE: Sweet Orange Peel, Coriander seeds, Cinnamon, Cocoa, Flaked Wheat, Dark Candy Syrup, Dark Cassonade Sugar, Pale, Special-B and Chocolate Malts, Flaked Wheat, Dark Candy Syrup, Dark Cassonade Sugar, Northern Brewer, Hallertauer, Styrian Goldings and Simcoe Hops, Yeast // PRICE POINT: $20 | 1x 26oz bottle //
