Brew Review #47
Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale 2009
American IPA
Sierra Nevada, Chico, California, USA
I RATE THIS BEER: 92
RELEASE: November // THE ABV. 6.8% | IBU’s. 6.2 // THE NOSE: Peppermint Candy Cane, Walnut, Pine, Marshmallow Fluff, Fresh Strawberry // THE TASTE: Toasted Chestnut, Licorice Root, Cranberry, Key Lime Pie // THE BOTTOMLINE: A soft sweetness blossoms on the nose and the initial sip of this Californian winter seasonal. Sweetness dissipating, the ale quickly opens up to reveal its dark malty and burnt leaf laden biceps, the warming and bitter intensity building like the exciting trundle to top of a tall roller coaster. The brews last word is stolen by its fresh and satisfyingly hoppy tiger tail. This beer is an ‘absolute’ in the realm of modern winter ales and this 2009 vintage is no exception. // THE BACKBONE: Chinook, Cascade and Centennial Hops, Two-row Pale and English Caramel Malts, Top-Fermenting Ale Yeast // PRICE POINT: $10 | 6x 12oz bottles //
