Brew Review #117
BrewDog Hardcore IPA
Imperial / Double IPA
BrewDog, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland
I RATE THIS BEER: 84
RELEASE: Year Round // THE ABV. 9.0% | IBU’s. 150 // THE NOSE: Calvados, White Tea, Candy Apple, Damp Straw, Mango, Papaya, Stinky Sock // THE TASTE: Wildflower Honey, Marmalade, Basil, Cilantro, Lemongrass, Green Tea // THE BOTTOMLINE: Uncharacteristically rich and Brandy like, this imperial India Pale caught me totally off guard, my expectations being correctly amped for something entirely more fresh, golden and ‘American’ in tone. While rather tasty, balancing as it does extreme resiny bitterness with a fairground treat sugary sweetness, this unorthodox effort ultimately falls short because of its simplicity and distinct lack of breezy freshness so prevalent, upfront and appealing in its peers. // THE BACKBONE: Marris Otter Extra Pale Malt, Simcoe, Chinook, Amarillo and Warrior Hops // PRICE POINT: $8 | 1x 22oz bottle //
